About
During a visit to a monastery in Belgium
From 2013 to 2025, I worked in university student affairs — supporting young adults through the specific chaos of being away from home for the first time, or stepping into a first professional role. The job had an administrative title, but it was really about being present for people in the middle of figuring out who they are and what they want.
I worked with a lot of people who thought they knew where they were going until they didn't: people who needed to leave something but couldn't find the exit, or who had done everything right and still felt lost. What I learned is that advice rarely helps in those moments. What does help is having someone who can sit with the uncertainty alongside you and ask better questions than the ones you've been stuck on.
In early 2025, I left my role at the university and moved abroad. I didn't leave the work — I just left the institution. I now meet with college students and young adults via video, and I keep my caseload small on purpose. Not because I'm selective for its own sake, but because this kind of work requires actual attention, and actual attention has limits.
"How rare it is to have leaders like you — leaders who care about people first, not just numbers or policies."
"You made me feel accepted, even when I didn't feel I deserved it. You still took me and built me up to be better."
